About Amethyst
The Science of Amethyst Amethyst is a variety of quartz which appears translucent purple, in shades from palest lavender to nearly black, thanks to natural irradiation and metallic impurities. As a quartz, it is a silicate mineral with the formula SiO2, and it has a trigonal crystal structure. It prefers to grow in the shape of six-sided prisms terminating in a six-sided point.
