Cleansing with Selenite

Cleansing with Selenite

This article originally appeared in our October edition of Witch, What?, a newsletter for witches of all experience levels which you can pick up in person at our stores or receive for free with an online order. It includes information like that month's full moon, any Wheel of the Year holidays coming up, what is in bloom that month, and helpful articles like this one! These articles will not appear on our blog until the following month (or later), so if you want to get them right away, make sure to drop by our booth at the 400 Market!

As well, this article is about Selenite! We actually have a larger article talking about all of Selenite's qualities at this link.

One of the simplest ways to cleanse is with Selenite, the beautiful white stone closely linked with the moon. It’s a powerfully cleansing stone that also charges other stones! Simply leave your stones in a selenite bowl, on a plate, on or around a selenite wand, or around a selenite tower, or have a bowl with selenite included among your other stones. The more contact, and the closer your stone is to selenite, the better. Leave it overnight.

Selenite is a variety of gypsum. Most often, when we talk about selenite, we mean Satin Spar, a variety that has a fibrous structure and can be easily made into rough wands. This crystal is a 2 on the hardness scale, making it extremely delicate. It shouldn’t be interacting with water, and you should take care while handling it to avoid splinters. It displays chatoyancy when cut and polished into cabochons, and light is carried through its long fibres which makes it a beautiful stone to use for lamps and candle holders, which makes it a great combination for cleansing and charging with light as well!
