Thor, the Norse God, was powerful enough to create thunder by striking his mighty hammer, Mjolnir. He would protect both the Gods and mortals alike. The reverse shows Thor delivering the final blow to the giant, Hrungnir, by flinging his trusty hammer. Yet Hrungnir's whetstone became lodged in Thor's forehead as a reminder of the fierce battle. His name is inscribed in runes around the base, alongside scenes from Norse mythology.
