Carnelian is a brownish-red mineral in the chalcedony/agate family, often confused with sard. It ranges in colour from pale orange to near-black and can be found in countries like Peru, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. The term "carnelian" comes from the Latin word for cherry and was first used as beads during the Early Neolithic era in Bulgaria. The Romans used it to make engraved gems, and the Hebrew odem might have been a carnelian. Many carnelian artifacts of ancient goddesses have been discovered, including Ishtar-Gula with her dog.
Carnelian is a high-energy stone that grounds and anchors you in the present reality and encourages creativity. It cleanses other stones, protects against negative emotions, and instills acceptance of the cycle of life. Carnelian provides courage and promotes positive life choices, aids in overcoming abuse, and helps to trust yourself. Additionally, it enhances analytical abilities, sharpens concentration, and replaces emotional negativity with a love of life.
Carnelian is believed to activate the base chakra and stimulate the metabolism. It is thought to regulate body fluids, accelerate healing in bones and ligaments, and improve blood supply to organs and tissues. It may also have a positive effect on female reproductive organs, increase fertility, and help alleviate back problems, depression, and other ailments. Carnelian has been used by some to prevent skin diseases, nose-bleeds, and blood diseases, and to treat neuralgia, gallstones, kidney stones, pollen allergies, and colds.
Carnelian can be worn as a pendant or belt buckle, or placed in contact with the skin for protection and abundance. It has been used throughout history to promote peace, courage, and self-confidence, as well as to dispel negative emotions. It is also believed to protect against lightning, storms, and nightmares.
