This beautiful specimen weighs over 4.3 kg, measuring approximately 17 x 16 x 13 cm. It has a three large sides, forming a sort of triangular column that would make it a beautiful corner decor piece. This piece features "berry amethyst" (amethyst with red hematite inclusions); a small amount of smoky amethyst (darker grey amethyst, often because it formed with smoky quartz); some amethyst flowers (where amethyst points grow in whorls), and small caverns containing fine druzy amethyst. The matrix of this mini-boulder (meaning the stone that the amethyst is hosted in) is almost entirely beautiful quartzite, with very little mudstone inclusion.
In addition, there is a small pocket containing naturally iridescent amethyst! These are rare but sometimes found at the mine we chose to visit. This can happen either when an extremely fine layer of metallic mineral overlays the crystal (similar to how "aura quartz" is made artificially), in which case it is called "natural aura," or it can be due microscopic ridges in the structure of the crystal, in which case it is called "iris quartz" or, in this case, "iris amethyst." While we are not experts, we think this one may be a case of iris amethyst. Either way, it is a beautiful and subtle natural phenomenon. We have tried our best to photograph the effect, but it is best seen in person.
The amazing variety of amethyst in this piece is a stunning example of natural beauty that will bring peace to your home, help ground any frantic energy, and connect you to your spirituality.
