A History of Witchcraft, Sorcerers, Heretics and Pagans

For almost three decades, Jeffrey B. Russell's authoritative history has been the go-to resource for anyone interested in the subject. Collaborating with Brooks Alexander, a researcher in the field, the updated edition offers a new introduction and bibliography, as well as new information and a detailed account of witchcraft throughout history. Examining the connections between contemporary sorcery and that of the ancient world, the book explains how the witch hunts of the 16th and 17th centuries were influenced by a combination of ancient sorcery, Christian heresy, paganism, folklore, and theological and inquisitorial trials. While the existence of diabolical witchcraft is debatable, its impact on both intellectuals and the general population cannot be denied.

This is a vintage reprint from 1983. We suspect it is the 2nd edition, but cannot be sure. Copy is in used condition with slightly crumpled corners, scratches on cover, highlighting throughout, and an original price sticker from McMaster Bookstore.
