Bloodstone is a dark green jasper which contains spots of red, due to inclusions of hematite. In some formations, these red spots can be so large as to be turned into shapes or cabochons which are mostly red with some green in them, but true bloodstone is primarily dark green.

Bloodstone is so named because the red specks resemble drops of blood. Because of this, it is considered very powerful. It is thought to be connected to health, strength, fortitude, and the movement of blood. Some Christians believe it to be connected to the crucifixion.
