Orthoceras Polished Plate

Orthoceras Polished Plate

Between 5" and 9" in size, this fossil is a really interesting example of an orthoceras, a kind of cephalopod that lived in a long narrow shell about 370 million years ago. This marine creature is related to modern day squids, octopuses and nautiluses! They used jet propulsion to move around and hid inside their shells for protection.
