Juniper berries are not true berries, but are actually female juniper cones with fleshy, merged scales. They are small, dark, and round, and they have a long history as a spice, especially for meats. Tea made from these berries tastes similar to gin, as gin is primarily flavoured with juniper berries.
The berries take between two to three years to ripen to a blue colour, and they develop their darker colour when they're laid out on shelves to dry after being picked.
They could be good offerings or tasty additions to teas.
